Let’s All Enjoy! Universal Beach

Introduction to the Universal Beach

Okinawa’s beaches promote both physical and service measures so everyone can enjoy the sea and marine activities. As an example, here are universal design highlights at Azama Sun Sun Beach.

Service Measures

Barrier-Free Training

Accessibility training is conducted for beach staff and tourism facility operators across the city.

Beach Accessibility

We now feature amphibious wheelchairs (Chair-boat & Mobi-chair). We are also proud to be the first in Japan to permanently install Mobi-mats, providing a stable and level pathway across the beach.

Hands-on Events

Local residents with disabilities joined us for a special beach event. By introducing a lightweight pier, we successfully launched boat-based activities for everyone to enjoy. This event showcased our 'Japan-first' Universal Design (UD) initiatives in action.

Facilities

Parking Lot

Accessible parking spaces are provided near the beach in convenient locations. We also cooperate with the Chura Parking permit system.

Displaying the Rainbow Flag

We are LGBTQ-friendly and aim to create a beach everyone can enjoy through staff training and more. Please feel free to ask if you have questions.

Braille Information

Braille is provided on facility guide boards, and Braille materials are available at reception.

Accessible Restroom & Shower Room

A shower chair is permanently installed. We are also considering separating the restroom and shower room in the future.
